NFINE.No owner inscrptn and no price-clip (£2.25p) to contents page,but owner has ticked item (the Memory Test and written an answer on a square in it) and commented on the other item/ stories in the contents list/table,all in red felt-tip ink.Bright,crisp,clean,glossy laminated,wrap-around,colour pictorial illustrated card boards and colour pictorial illustrated front endpapers by John HARROLD; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks,tears or splits present.Corner tips of head of spine,rear top and front lower corners too,all minisculely bumped but with no major loss.Top+fore-edges slightly aged/toned with some minimal,sporadic foxing/spotting - as usual/normal - but generally bright and clean; contents bright, tight and near pristine with a tiny closed tear to pp89/92 (the last 4pp) - no other nicks or tears present internally.UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,1st edn,4-92pp [paginated] includes a colour pictorial Rupert's Who's Who to reverse of front free endpaper,5 colour strip stories,a 1pp origami instructions to make Rupert's singing fly,a memory puzzle page,and an owner completed painting/colouring page,with coloured pencils to rear pastedown.Cover: Rupert,with a brown face,running from school with a satchel over his right shoulder.Other Nutwood friends/characters in the background extending round to rear board.First story: Rupert and the Two Moons; plus 4 others - Rupert and the Wee Man,Rupert and the Igloo,Rupert and the Wonderful Kite,and Rupert and the Cuckoo Clock. Described hard,but fairly and honestly,it really is not as affected,as it reads or sounds. John Harrold took over the illustrating of the Rupert character as Alex CUBIE had retired,and who'd illustrated the previous annuals from 1974 until 1977.John Harrold was born in Glasgow, 1947,and studied art there at the Glasgow School of Art situated in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh building.His first job as a Rupert illustrator was on 'Fun to Cook with Rupert' (drawn in 1973, published 1974).The editor,Frederick Chaplain was impressed and invited him to work for the Daily Express.His first story,Rupert and the Worried Elves,began on 14 October 1976,and in the same year he produced games pages for the annuals.Since his first annual (1978),Harrold has drawn the covers and end-papers for the annuals since this.Up to now (then 1997),has been illustrating the little bear's adventures for longer than Mary Tourtel,and those children who were brought up on his first adventures are now mature adults.
